Unity’s theme for this month is about Love, and so it is fitting to talk about it on the Sunday before Valentine’s Day. We are all at various places on our journey into love. Whatever the case, we are all compelled, consciously or subconsciously, by an inner longing for the Divine Beloved. This is the inner presence of Divine Love, the Christ Presence within each of us.
Love is the journey and also the goal—the fulfillment we seek. I always love asking couples how they met. I just read a few interesting stories: One man moved across the country and found his “soul mate,” a loving man who also turned out to be a perfect match for the kidney transplant he needed! Another story told of a woman who was feeling lonely one day several years after her husband had died. She picked up the phone and called her old high school boyfriend from several decades before who had also lost a spouse and was a widower. They picked up where they had left off, got married, and continued enjoying a number of years together. Another couple met in a virtual class, then flirted on a class discussion board, through emails, texts, and eventually in-person, where they discovered they were an amazing match. And finally, a man and woman, both strangers, ended up sharing an Uber ride. Their discussion so captivated both of them, that they made a date, and the rest is history.
Love is such a wonderful mystery, not to mention the other kinds of love of parents, children, family members, and friends. No matter who we love, it behooves us to seek true spiritual love—the beloved of the soul, for the more we discover our true Self, the better we can love others.
Whether you are “in love” or alone, there is always greater love to experience.
Have a Happy Valentine’s Day!
Love and blessings,
Rev. Kathy
