The theme of peace is our focus on this second week of Advent, in which we spiritually prepare for the birth of the Christ at Christmas. During this season, we are reminded of peace when we think of the story of Jesus, and when we hear the famous song “Silent Night,” and its words… “Sleep in heavenly peace.”
Heavenly peace is the peace that “passes all understanding,” as Jesus claimed. It is a oneness with the Divine that provides a deep assurance that all is well, and in truth, there is nothing to be concerned about.
That statement does not imply that we can just relax and trust and refrain from action. When we take action that we know can help not only ourselves, but the greater collective, then we can access a deeper peace. Sometimes we feel agitated until we do all that we can. Only then can we let go and let God, knowing that God is in charge, and all is well.
There is the deeper peace that can come as we reflect upon our life purpose and where we are in the scheme of our personal vision and goals. And there is the peace that can show up each day in simple ways, as we pause and take time to breathe, to slow down, to meditate, and to reflect on the Spirit of God within.
We can choose peace each time we drive on a busy freeway, stand in a long line, or rush late to an appointment. We can choose peace anytime someone disagrees with us or expresses a point of view that is the opposite of ours. We can choose peace even when we are “fighting” for a cause.
Remember to choose peace during this busy Holiday Season! And may your peace be heavenly!
Love and blessings,
Rev. Kathy
