Tithing & Giving Back—Week 2 of 'Activate Your Prosperity' series
Maya Angelou said, “When we give cheerfully and accept gratefully, everyone is blessed.” Giving and receiving are an important part of prosperity teachings.
According to the late Eric Butterworth, “The taker is the person who believes that his or her life will always be the total of what he or she can get from the world. The thinking is always, ‘get, get, get,’ and yet it never brings peace or security of fulfillment.
“The giver, on the other hand, is convinced that life is a giving process. Thus, the subtle motivation to give him or herself away, in love, in service, and in all the many helpful ways he/she can find. There is always security because there is an intuitive knowing that good flows from within.” The giver also learns to receive in gratitude.”
In our spiritual quest, we are seeking to establish ourselves in a unitive relationship with the divine flow. We can never really achieve this level of consciousness until giving becomes the main thrust of our life. When it does, and we discover the wonder of giving, we become an “incurable giver.” There are many channels through which giving can be expressed. We can “tithe” our time, talent, and our treasures.
If ever there is a lack of any kind, whether it is a need for money, or for guidance, or even for healing, something is blocking the flow. And the most effective remedy: Give! The law of giving teaches that “something’s got to give.” Look for ways to start the giving flow. Make a commitment to some kind of giving. Not a bargain with God, but rather, make a covenant with yourself. You may decide to tithe to your church, give to someone in need, help a neighbor, fix a meal for someone, or all of the above. There is a saying, “You can’t outgive God.” It is true also that the more we give the more we do receive—in countless ways. Call forth the generous giver in you and watch in wonder as your life improves!
Love and blessings,
Rev. Kathy
