Carol Kniskern was the founding pastor of Unity North Spiritual Center. She had a special interest in the teachings of Jesus/Yeshua. Alert to social and political trends, she has watched shifts of focus in some areas of mainstream Christianity since she entered the ministry in 1990. She retired from Unity North in 2018 but still responds to occasional healing requests. Since her retirement, she tends to her chickens, gardens, and art projects.
While it is a fact that religion changes and transforms over time, the changes in Christianity have been, for me, alarming. This particular re-definition began in this country 50+ years ago. We will spend time tracing its history, beliefs, and motives. We will compare and contrast them with the teachings from the Gospels. We will explore the repercussions of this “alternative” Christianity as it plays out in churches, politics, and everyday life. Finally, we will ask: now what?
There is a book that goes with this class, though it is not required for the class. The book is The Religion of Whiteness: How Racism Distorts Christian Faith by Michael O. Emerson and Glenn E. Bracey II.
